Absracts -Student athletes’ return to sports post COVID-19 has highlighted an urgency to play and perceptions of pain threshold versus pain tolerance as well as fear of failure anxiety for African American athletes, ushering their acceptance of subjective assessments and dismissing early post-injury warnings reducing expediency of effective treatment plans, classroom readiness, and sports performance as well as team trust and synchronicity.
Comprehensively measuring an athlete’s pain threshold and pain tolerance range for reduced anxiety, accelerated cognitive restoration, and a safer return to play for African American Student-Athletes will disrupt the current racial disparities in Wonderlic Contemporary Cognitive Ability Test scores required for NFL Combine invitation, trauma fatalities, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)/ Mental Health concerns and injuries which exasperated by the skill strengthening exclusions and delayed treatment.
